- When using Instanet, the answer is yes. Physical security is just as important as data security, encryption, firewalls and ‘all that technical stuff’. Hurricanes, widespread power outages and other disasters always pose a threat. The data center should have redundant connections to the internet, gas or diesel generator back-ups that can last a week or more without refill in case of extended electrical outage, etc. They should also be audited and rated by known organizations. Don’t just take your vendor’s word for it, ask for certifications.
